In Japan, the art of eating is a real pleasure. The meal is tasted as much with the eyes as with the mouth! Eat in specific Japanese plate style, bowl, bento box and cup depending of your meal, and Japanese events (tea ceremony, dinner etc...)
Which kind of meal for your Japanese tableware set ?
The cuisine is delicious and balanced. Each meal is composed of soup, vegetables, meat or fish and rice. Drink green tea of course and often there is no dessert. The number 5 is very important in Japan. At the table, the 5 senses must be awake!
Sight, smell, hearing, touch and of course taste!
For example, vegetables are cut and presented in the shape of chrysanthemums, such as "Kikuka Kabu" turnips in the shape of chrysanthemum flowers or "Hanazushi" sushi in the shape of flowers.
The very short cooking time will keep the vegetables crunchy to stimulate the ears!
Fish and meat sliced into thin pieces can be easily seized with chopsticks.
For each meal, different materials are used for the presentation of the dishes: Ceramic, porcelain, lacquered wood, raku... Contrary to our habits, the Japanese mix materials and colors on the same plate.
Japanese tableware harmony
Each container is chosen with care. There must be a perfect harmony between the dish used and the food it contains.
- Rice is presented in a small porcelain bowl.
- The ramen soup is served in a large porcelain bowl, which is similar to a small salad bowl in our Western culture.
- Miso soup can be served in a wooden bowl. Rectangular plates or small dishes are used to present sushi.
- Japanese porcelain is of a rare quality while remaining functional since it is dishwasher and microwave safe.
How to choose the fine Japanese Tableware
Each season has its own dishes! The Japanese create dishes according to the season.
In winter, it is common to taste a "Chawan mushi" which is a flan made with shiitake.
It is easy to find a lot of bowls with lids to cook and present this dish.
